TINY DROPS = BIG OCEAN? : HOW CAN ONE HABIT CHANGE YOUR LIFE

‘Every day the clock resets. Your wins don’t matter. Your failures don’t matter. Don’t stress on what was, fight for what could be.’ -Sean Higgins. When I read this quote it got me to think that we are actually fighting for what could be but still at one point there is the attitude of ‘we can’t make it’ because I’m including somethings too much.

The one thing I don;t agree with the quote is about the wins and the failures. Sure it shouldn’t matter when it comes to the goal but it should matter to you when you actually want to take a step up. The failures show you where to improve and the wins show you how far you’ve come. But in this entire chain there are a lot of interconnections involved but one is very powerful and those are our habits.

Let’s imagine that you didn’t follow the natural flow of how habits work because for this to work you have to do it everyday. And let’s see how the story goes.

Imagine you are a carefree person with sunny positive attitude sugar, spice and everything nice but there is just one little problem that you are a little lazy and just a person who doesn’t do something unless they absolutely have to. You absolutely love your work and have so many big dreams and it’s just set your mind. One day you decide to sit and look for yourself of what you’ve done so far in your career line and after looking that you’re at square one you just don’t get it how?

You have always submitted your work, you do a great job and you’re pretty good at handling situations and what you do and you’ve been at this job for the longest time but have not got promoted, why? You decide to go and have a one on one word with your boss and she’s in shock when she replies: ‘You really don’t know why you’re not being upgraded?’ and you reply: ‘no, why? I’ve been doing everything it takes to get there.’ and your boss replies: ‘Sweetie there is a major difference between just doing what it takes and having everything to reach your goal.’ You meanwhile in a shocking mode ask: ‘What do you mean?’

She explains: ‘Imagine you’re my boss and I have a big project coming up. I’ve done my best, submitted the work before the deadline although at the last minute by just pulling a one or two day all nighter. Now think that as a person who handles the company who manages people everyday, gets all the records of what has been done and what has to be done and you look at me who does the job by just paying attention for 2 days? Would you promote me?

And you reply: ‘Well it seems like you’ve done everything but there is something missing?’ your boss replies : ‘I’m glad that you seem to know something is missing.’ Look, the point is it’s not just important to get the work done, it’s to also know what is around and what connects that work. Confused, you ask your boss what she means and she replies: you’re a content creator, right? So what does it take for your content to come all of it in one place? You reply: ‘well it’s a whole package. It requires all the material, the people to create content, for me to edit, give it to the video editor, check if everything is right, if the promotional graphics are right and ya the whole ruckus.’ and your boss replies : well great so now tell me if I’m at the content creator position and I want to become the head of that department what will I require. You reply: ‘Well you will need leadership, communication, the ability to manage people, discipline and a few more things.’

Your boss with a smile asks you, you’re working really hard but is it everyday/ with all of the things you just mentioned? Disappointed you reply: well I guess I am a lazy ladybug and I do have a lot of stuff to work on and in order to achieve my goals only loving my job cannot work and you know I will change that one by one I will install the habit and work hard towards my goal.

Just like a kid the moral of the story can be now do you realise how habits can change what you are and what you can be? Well all of this jorts down to one single point. Not giving up is will power, knowing what to do is intellectual and walking towards the goal with all the obstacles is what your one small habit of not giving up on what you do will motivate you to reach where you want to. And as a matter of fact even though I am not there yet, I still make some mistakes like overthinking or just getting angered and coming to the verge of almost giving up but well just the fact that I write everyday and I know it’s worth something makes me never give up.

So I guess some short stories can be worthwhile. Let me know if this helped you or you liked this article and I will see you in the next one. Toodeloo!
