4 WAYS TO OPTIMISE YOUR GOAL SETTING

“ Success in any way is the progressive realisation of a goal or an idea.” You know there are 100 ways to get motivated, inspired and you know get the light bulb for a new idea, but why is it that none of us are able to imply it completely? I mean no offence but yes we do our jobs, yes we get paid well, yes there is always a hint of dissatisfaction that it ain’t enough, but why? Goal setting, keeping track of things, organising, keeping your mind healthy and just being focused is tough because well it’s boring to take a pen and a paper for writing. What’s the schedule for today? Or oh here is the to do list for the day and creating a habit of making lists isn’t easy for every person. Thankfully the technology has supported us a lot and we have apps and voice commands for this now and so you don’t have to worry of forgetting things. But there is one thing that cannot be created by technology yet and that’s a vision board or a board for the goals you want to achieve and well goal setting. This plays such an important role that every single time you see that, you’re reminded that I have to do this and wasting my time isn’t gonna help me. So here are 4 effective ways to optimise you goal settings

  1. CHOOSE YOUR ONE GOAL

The thing with goal setting is that you start with one and you end up thinking loads of it. For example: I want to become the owner of a factory but wait I want to learn how to manage, I have to improvise your communication, I have to get good with sales, I have to be good with accounts and so on. Right? So what is the solution? You need to choose one goal out of all these. Let’s say you keep the goal of becoming an owner as the long term one, what do you have to do to get there, choose one at a time. So if you start with communication, you can find a solution of taking classes, reading books, attending meetings with your parents or whatever and this step doesn’t confuse you, it makes your way more clear and since you go one by one it’s effective and you can actually enhance your skills in all of them.

  1. REVIEW YOUR PAST 60-90 DAYS

Well most people think that this step is not that essential or you can do something better but you might just prove to be wrong. Reviewing what you have done in the past 60 days makes you realise what you do in your entire day, how much time you are productive or unproductive, are you active, are you peaceful and so on. Thinking about your past will show you if you have a balance between your work and leisure time and so if you’re doing only leisure, you can start being productive the next second and if you’re overworking it’s time to take a break.  And it also makes sure that if something has not been working you can make your own itinerary for the next month of how you would like it to go.

  1. BREAKDOWN THE STEPS TO MAKE IT EASIER

It’s not necessary that you have to work continuously or stay under pressure to meet your goals. Sometimes your goals are not to be achieved on time and that’s okay because then you can break it down to smaller steps to make sure you reach it as soon as possible. Say for example: Writing, you have the goal of writing an article to impress one of the best firms you have dreamed of and you want to complete it in like 3 days and the next 2 days you just do the corrections or work on the presentation. Let’s say you have a writer’s block and on the third day you were only able to complete 70% of the article, what do you do? You break down the steps. Take a pen pad or your laptop and write the key notes and with the help of the keynotes you complete your entire article the next day and check all the grammar or the structure or if you have actually said what you meant to say through the article. And as according to the plan you go on with the presentation you complete your goal. Now it’s not necessary that you always have to work it out.breaking it down can also mean to take a break and go for a vacation, plan according to what you feel.

  1. DEADLINES AND EVALUATIONS

Not to sound like a teacher or something but this step is actually very effective in the ways of reaching your goals and finding out on what you have to work on next. So for some people who perhaps feel like a little lazy or just a little careless of not getting their goals at the time that they estimated. Keep deadlines, you know why? Because then you will be focused, not because you have to but you will want to. Keep a deadline and set a punishment for yourself and the punishment should be something you love to do the most so let’s say if you don’t finish the presentation by the end of the week no dining out, drinking or parties for the next week. This will help you keep on track.

Evaluations, now this is something which will help you grow. Imagine a situation where you work your ass off for a project and when you submit it the boss says it doesn’t reflect your best work, you feel mad and you feel useless because you worked really hard for this. So take your best project of all time and take the one you did currently, check what you did earlier, spot the mistakes you made this time, take it to yourself and tell yourself that my quality has to be the best. This technique boosts confidence and makes you work smarter rather than working harder.

There you have it folks, these are some of the simple 4 techniques you can use in your daily life. Or maybe you can think of something better with these ideas, because you never know what works for you. All this says is that making work and life balance is hard and let’s face it most of the time it will be 60-40 but working on yourself always helps. So let me know which one you liked the most in the comments section and I will see you in the next one. Toodeloo!
