I woke up in the morning all active and just did all my workout, had my breakfast, showered and well scrolled the phone for a bit and voila my energy was down. This had been my days for almost a week and you know through no fault of my own none of my work schedule got over. I was not loving to do my work, it was like ugh! I have to do it, not new day let’s get it.
This does speak for a major difference in your everyday work cycle. And it’s not like I did not try to work, I did but things got delayed, less focus and everything you can imagine. I understood that obviously there is something wrong. So I decided okay, let’s try the process of overcoming procrastination and the way it worked was pretty good for me and all my chores including work.
In all of this you need to first understand the difference between being lazy and procrastinating. Procrastination is an active process where you choose to do something else instead of a task you’re bound to do. And well, laziness is not willing to do anything and just sit or lay down. So why is it that suddenly everything changes and like no deadlines are met, you’re late for everything, you lack motivation and you just want everything on your list checked but it’s just not working. Well here are techniques to overcome procrastination and increase motivation and productivity.

- RECOGNISE THAT YOU’RE PROCRASTINATING
You will know that you’re procrastinating when all of a sudden your tasks are at hold, however if you know that you’re delaying something on purpose then it’s not procrastination.
Some of the well known examples could be your calendar is filled with tasks that are not that important and can be done anytime.
You start something but instead of finishing you’re on a shopping spree.
Have so many mails opened but did not reply to any one of them
The worst one: ‘ ummm… I’m not in the mood, and you know the timing is not right. I’ll do it later.’
PRO TIP: you can start from small chores or you can divide and rule with the big tasks, so choose the particular wisely but finish it.
- TOP LIST FOR PROCRASTINATING
Now you see any working person does deal with procrastination at one point. But it is also important to know why it’s happening before you get all panicked that oh crap I have so much to do.
ORGANISING: this is actually a major problem for most of the people, organising your tasks is very important as it is way too overwhelming at the peak hours of work to even think ‘what is my to do list’ . although I do understand that it is too much to suddenly be you know organised, so you can always start with a small to do and gradually increase it.
Fear of failing or getting a success can also be one of the reasons, confused? Let me explain, the nervousness of completing a big project and just thinking that you will fail leads you to not do the task that greatly which leads to procrastination. The fear of success comes from the overthinking brain where it feels if I do this they will dump more on me.
Disliking a particular task is one of the major reasons, so you behave in the way ugh I don’t like it let’s save it for the last and by the time the last comes the deadline is usually gone. So in a situation like this always go with the bad ones first just so you can have the good ones in the last.

- TECHNIQUES TO AVOID PROCRASTINATION
The number one rule to avoid procrastination is to forgive yourself for doing it till now or in the past and just be a little kind to yourself.
The second best thing you can do to avoid this is to motivate yourself. Let’s say for example you have set a target to finish a particular task or project. Now you can ask your parents, friends or just someone who will keep checking up on you and given that I’ve tried it, it’s highly motivating.
Connecting with the previous one the third thing you can do is to keep a to-do list, set a timer and make sure that you just don’t get up before finishing your task. You may feel like giving up but just a little push will help you finish it. Or you can set up a reward for yourself that if you do these tasks on time you will go out, or buy yourself that outfit, or just anything that will motivate you.
Last but not the least, if you know you’re procrastinating and you also know that you can get distracted easily, the most vital thing for you to do would be to minimise all your distractions. So in this generation often phones are the biggest one and so you can put your phone on flight mode or just keep it in some other room till you finish your task just so you don’t get distracted.

There you have it folks’ tips and tricks to overcome procrastination and well increase your productivity and since all of these have at least been tried by be I can surely tell you they work, you just need to pick the one thing and it will give you a good push and rush to finish your tasks.
