BRIDGERTON SEASON 3: REVIEW

You know how people usually say, “Oh, you know, I’m not interested in someone’s life.” And some people actually aren’t unless there is a line of gas that is lit on fire. Then, even if you like it or not, you’re interested. And well, as there is a community in and around you and you are not a saint, sure, you don’t care what others think or say about you, but deep down, you do want to know. Coming into the spotlight with any drama and people just talking, giving looks, commenting out loud, or maybe even spreading a bigger rumor—that calls for a scandal. You know there is nothing more scandalous and juicy than knowing something new every single day, or perhaps setting out a drama yourself.

Or should I say, “Dearest gentle readers, I hope you missed me, because this town is ready for something new and bigger this season.” For those who guessed where I’m going, you’re right—we’re visiting the first volume of the brand new Season 3 of Bridgerton. Believe it or not, we are all waiting to see what Lady Whistledown is going to do now that she has the love of her life.

For those of you who have not seen Bridgerton before, it is a period piece set in early British times, specifically during the Regency Era. Eight siblings, who are knotted together by the powerful Bridgerton family, attempt to find love. And well, there is no one plot to the story until it is twisted. In a nutshell, it is about throwing balls of the season, reading a scandalous paper by an anonymous person who knows everything and everyone, scandals like loving a friend or maybe someone you don’t like, and perhaps falling in love with a person who might not date you. It’s all about growing up and finding a suitor according to society’s rules. And well, what are rules if they’re not broken?

This book series by Julia Quinn has been beautifully set on screen. The intimidation of the entire Town of London is so much that you cannot stop thinking about what will happen next. The second season ended with Eloise knowing who Lady Whistledown, a.k.a. Penelope Featherington, actually is. Knowing who her dearest friend was felt like an iron fist to the gut, and well, the only friend Penelope had is now lost. The third season started with a boom, of course, starting with Lady Whistledown’s paper telling “Dearest gentle readers.” To be honest, in the first part of the season, the hero, the heroine, and the plot are all about Penelope Featherington. This part is mainly based on the Season 2 characters and not just one. They took their time to cover the layers of the other characters, which were very detailed and really gave the show the drama it deserves. Honestly, the plot they have built up for part two of Season 3 is impeccable.

Penelope had spent her entire summer in the countryside, and after she came back, the first guilt that hit her was what she did to Eloise Bridgerton. Even though she ruined her character last season, and given that it wasn’t that much of a fair share, I’d like to think that part is what made this season even more interesting. Walking through this season, Penelope has decided to change everything about herself because she’d rather live with a husband than deal with the cruelty or trauma she experiences from her mother and her sisters. The last season cast Anthony and Kate seemed to grow in their relationship and were enjoying the honeymoon phase while taking proper responsibility for the family. The Queen delayed choosing the diamond of the season, and Whistledown is just thrilled about that part. While the balls and the drama go hand in hand, Penelope, on the other hand, decided that on her third year out, she would change anything and everything to be a lady of interest. Her choice of clothing was surely astounding and perhaps a change we all were hoping for. Other than that, there is a love triangle brewing with Penelope, Colin, and a Lord who seems to have a great interest in Penelope. It sure is seaworthy, and while we have a jealous Colin who did not realize what their friendship was, it is something you can swoon over this season.

But, oh, oh, there is a twist to this. Colin hates Whistledown, and with the way things are going and their love story is truly a success, what will happen when Pen is unmasked by Colin’s sister Eloise because she knows the truth? A truly chilling season is coming forward, and we cannot wait to see what happens next. Anyway, readers, it’s time to make haste and say goodbye because I will surely meet you for the next season. Toodeloo!
