SKINCARE SERIES: WHY RECOGNISING YOUR SKIN IS IMPORTANT?

“Good skincare is like dieting. You have to invest time and effort. There is no instant miracle cure.” – Karen Grant. Skincare has been wildly popular since the pandemic and the reason is people finally took their time to look after themselves. It’s important to understand why your skin has problems. Is it because of the food, the wrong products that affect your skin, or the pollution?

Now I know what you’re thinking : “skincare is nice and all but omg there are so many steps and I’m too lazy. And plus the research ugh! I don’t know if I can.”  I understand that there is a standard process which everyone has put out there like okay whatever you do you have to do CTM first ( cleansing, toning, moisturising) and you have to apply sunscreen. Before sleeping you must have eye cream and a good process for your skin, and this entire process freaks everyone out.

There might be steps but it’s not necessary that it works for everybody. Some people don’t react well to toners and some people can’t stand the chemicals or some people have certain allergies. The smart thing to do is to recognise your skin if it’s normal, oily, combination, dry or sensitive. Now let’s say for example you have sensitive skin and so the application of products may give you rashes or acne or just a red face. And believe me nobody wants that and so the only solution is to figure out what skin type you have.

NORMAL SKIN: for this skin type you have a very good balance, your skin is neither too dry or neither too oily. You don’t usually experience acne or any sort of skin change because you have a balanced blood circulation. Seasonal changes do not count and plus there are a variety of products you can use without facing side effects but it’s always better to stick to no chemical side.

OILY SKIN: oily skin people have sebaceous glands which produce a lot of oil mostly on the T zone, cheeks and chin. Since the oil keeps secreting breakouts are very usual and so you need to use products that are mild and the ones that won’t completely take out the oiliness from your skin. Enlarged pores may also be a thing for you and so make sure that you cleanse your face with a gentle cleaner everyday and consider natural products particularly for oily skin.

DRY SKIN: if you have dry skin you will analyse that your skin is very tight and flaky. And because you have low sebum production you may experience your skin ageing too fast since it does not produce oils naturally. Well the basic and simple thing would be to take moisturising and hydrating products that lasts all day long.

COMBINATION SKIN: having a combination skin is pretty common and so you might have areas where it is either too oily or too dry and since you have to treat them separately you need to search for products which are either suitable for all skin types or the ones that are especially made for combination skins and if both of the options are not working you have to have different products for the different areas.

SENSITIVE SKIN: if you have sensitive skin you may see reactions to products almost immediately because of your allergies or any skin diseases. The right thing to do is to carefully choose your products or it may cause irritation or redness. You may have to switch products according to the season change or best in best consult a dermatologist.

All in all the point is that advanced technology has come up with amazing products curated just for your skin. Some have a combination of moisturiser or sunscreen or a combo of something else. The point is skincare has been made easier and everyone can do it if you just have the time of 5 minutes for yourself. So self analyse, try new natural products, keep a healthy glowing skin as you wear makeup and just be a star. And even if you are not able to, you can still consider a dermatologist and get the right products for your skin. Let me know if you liked this article and I will see you in the next one. Toodeloo!
