MOVIE REVIEW: ANYONE BUT YOU!

Everyone talks about Monday motivation, some ask for this to go away because the weekend is over and some say that it’s all work from here till Saturday. I say there is never a moment where you have to wait for yourself to feel motivated, there is always a party if you create one and there is no restriction for you to have entertainment anytime you want to.

I had a very regular day today and an auspicious one too. January 22nd 2024 will be remembered forever in India on occasion of the opening of Ram Mandir, the entire world is celebrating and everyone is happy. I did not have much work  motivation for today and my sister called me up saying let’s go for a movie. I was like, are you crazy you’re talking about a movie in a half hour but after seeing the trailer I was intrigued and so I said what the hell, let’s make this Monday a chill day. I did not regret it, I did not. This movie is the best rom-com I have ever seen in a while. It is just the perfect amount of everything. So let’s talk about Anyone but you, movie review.

The movie started with a standard meet cute between Bea (SydneySweeny) and Ben (Glen Powell). Bea was a law student and Ben worked in finance. They met at a coffee shop, hit it off  and after a hilarious scene of Bea making her pants wet in the washroom accidentally to them talking the entire night till they fell asleep, was just the pure 90’s vibe but just the perfect 20’s vibe of making you scream inside. Ugh! I want a date like this, obviously eliminating the bathroom scene.

They have great chats and the next morning Bea sneaks out and Ben gets triggered by that, resulting in telling his friend Pete that she was a disaster. Bea overhearing this conversation just figures out that he is a fuckboi. 6 months later they meet again at a bar where they figure out that Bea’s sister Halley and Pete’s sister Claudia are in a relationship. They both hate each other that instant second and by then Bea is actually engaged to her neighbour Jonathan.

Giving off that hate to lovers vibes. Halley and Claudia’s relationship accelerates and results in their marriage in Sydney where everyone is invited. Now this is where it gets interesting, their chit chats of insulting each other, both the brides being scared that they will ruin the wedding. While Bea is on the stress pedal of her parents setting her up with Jonathan again and Ben meeting her ex in their wedding, it gets hot everywhere. At the rehearsal dinner Bea and Ben get in an engaging fight bursting the fireworks and ruining the decoration and make everyone believe that this wedding will be a disaster if they don’t get together.

Claudia’s side of the family put their head together to make Bea and Ben involve in a sexual relationship and on the other hand Bea’s parents invite Jonathan to the wedding just so they get reacquainted and not that there wasn’t enough drama Bea quits the law school too. Ben is jealous that his ex girlfriend is dating a surfer dude. And so to make Bea’s parents shut up and to make Ben’s ex-girlfriend Margaret jealous they decide to get together for a fake relationship.

The couple makes everyone’s stomach churn by laughing at them because they suck at faking. While they try, they just blurt out stuff, keep the cute fights, and somehow make people believe that they might be actually dating. Just to make sure while they are partying out on a yacht, they try to do some 90’s movie cringe stuff and Bea ends up falling into the ocean. Now Ben, being shit scared of the deep ocean jumps in to save her and they have deep conversations in the middle of the sea waiting for someone to rescue them. Well that one romantic thing led to other stuff and this time Ben snuck out. Things get triggers on the wedding day when the cake gets ruined, Ben fucks up and well Bea runs off and that results to a chopper ride to the Opera house.

Even Though all’s well that ends well. This movie is worth watching because it is old fashioned love with a 20’s vibe. And in this generation of tinder and bumble, oh just the old fashion is every girl and boy’s dream. So a must watch for just the haters to lovers thing.

Let me know if I should do more movie reviews in the comments and I will see you in the next one. Toodeloo!
