THE DIY EDITION: 3 MOST EASY SAUCES TO MAKE AT HOME

“The art of cuisine is one of the key ways to explore and appreciate various cultures.” – Guy Fieri.  A well-spoken sentence. As a foodie, I’m always looking for dishes that can be simply produced with items you already have at home. Well, I generally like to cook authentically since nothing beats freshly created sauces at home for the right taste, learning something new, and obviously having something new.

So, if you’re looking for salad dressing, dip, or pasta sauces, I’ve got three easy DIY recipes for three distinct sauces for you. Let’s find out what they are without further ado.

  1. MARINARA SAUCE

The marinara sauce is the most popular American-Italian sauce. With just this one sauce, you can become the king of tomato sauce recipes. The beautiful thing about this sauce is that if you’re making dinner or lunch on the spur of the moment, all you need are some basic ingredients to prepare the sauce and some boiling pasta. Just like a snap. So let’s get started on making the all-purpose basis for tomato sauce recipes.

INGREDIENTS:

  1. Canned tomatoes or 5 to 6 peeled tomatoes
  2. Water
  3. Olive oil
  4. Onion (optional) and garlic
  5. Dried oregano
  6. Fresh basil
  7. Salt and pepper
  8. Red chilli flakes

METHOD:

  1. 2 – 3 spoons olive oil in a pan and when hot, add onions if desired in medium heat or 3 garlic cloves and stir for 1 minute.
  2. Add red pepper flakes to taste, and then add the canned tomatoes or 5 to 6 peeled and crushed tomatoes to the pan, shortly after rinse the can or the bowl of tomatoes with a cup of water.
  1. Now is the time to season them with salt and pepper and leave them to simmer for 15- 30 minutes on medium heat.
  2. As you may know, the longer you heat the sauce, the thicker it becomes.
  1. Now before turning the heat off add fresh basil and your sauce is ready. Now you can taste it and adjust the seasoning or the spice according to your taste.

2)    SAMBAL SAUCE

This Indonesian sauce is out of this world. This one is for those who enjoy spicy foods. Sambal sauce, also known as Indonesian chilli paste, is typically made for mi goreng and nasi goreng. It’s really simple to make and only takes around 15 minutes to prepare.

INGREDIENTS

  1. Fresh red chillies
  2. Shallots
  3. Garlic
  4. Lemongrass
  5. Curry leaves
  6. Tamarind juice
  7. Cashews (optional)
  8. Coconut sugar or sugar

METHOD:

  1. To capture the flavours, combine all of the ingredients and blend with oil.
  2. Taste it and adjust the sauce to your liking.
  3. Take enough oil to fry the paste, and when the oils separate from the paste, you’ll know it’s time to add the vegetables, rice, or noodles. Toss everything together and serve.

3) TAHINI SAUCE

This adaptable sauce goes well with salads, roasted vegetables, toast, falafel, and grain bowls. This sauce is ready to serve with just the proper amount of 5 ingredients. Which takes less than 10 minutes to prepare.

INGREDIENTS

  1. Tahini – pure sesame seeds paste
  2. Olive oil
  3. Lime juice or rice vinegar
  4. Water and salt
  5. Sriracha (optional)
  6. Garlic

METHOD

  1. Pour the tahini paste into a bowl, making sure you have a thin sesame paste created from sesame seeds.
  2. Pour in the freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  3. Add a peeled and crushed garlic clove, as well as salt.
  4. Whisk it for about 2 minutes to form a smooth paste.
  5. It’s done when it thickens. Now taste and adjust the seasonings or add water to your liking.
  6. Of course, you can make this dip your own by adding paprika powder, sweet chilli sauce, or sambal sauce to make it spicy.

That’s all there is to it, guys! These are the three simplest sauces to make with items you already have on hand. Give your food the real flavour you’ve always desired. Please let me know which of these you liked best or if you’d want me to discuss something different. I hope to see you in the next one. Toodeloo!
